Mechanical engineering is particular branch of engineering where one gets training on how to design, create, maintain, repair and operate different types of equipment to be used for various purposes. Some of the machines they make are used to transmit power, convert natural gas for practical use, manufacture other products, build parts in automobiles, create tools that can be used by other engineers, make nuclear reactors or aircraft engines and so on. Mechanical engineering is thus a vast field as different machines require different knowledge, technology and qualifications. After one finishes his mechanical engineering course, he can choose a field to specialize in like making aircrafts, manufacturing equipment, research and development and so on.

Most mechanical engineers work in the field of manufacturing, while others work for educational institutions, public sector companies or as consultants. If you are interested in a managerial position, you can also do an MBA along with your engineering degree which will give a push in your career. A mechanical engineer must have good analytical skills, he must be physically as sometimes some repair and maintenance work requires one to be agile and nimble. In order to meet project deadlines or manufacturing goals, the mechanical engineer may have to work overtime in some parts of the year.

Here are a few job titles that one can choose from the field of mechanical engineering.

Mechanical Engineer Job Titles:

A mechanical engineer is someone who has a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering and hence possessing the right qualifications and knowledge to design, formulate, plan, create, develop, test and present a machine. There are a wide variety of machines that can be made by a mechanical engineer and usually they specialize in field so that they can know they details of that field. The most common job titles under this heading are:

Mechanical engineering technicians are those professionals who assist the mechanical engineers in the designing, creation, inspection, repair and maintenance of different kinds of machinery and tools. Just like the mechanical engineers, they also work in specialized fields and know the minute details of every machine. They may have to install equipment, find out the reason for any malfunction and often work for long hours till the problem is fixed. They are directly involved in the building and maintenance of these machines and hence are like the backbone of the field of mechanical engineering. These technicians can be employed by many large or small companies and mostly work for the manufacturing sector. Some major job titles in this category are as follows:
